Cribs Glossary
Crib - Baby cribs are available in many different styles and designs. Different cribs have different features designed to suit the needs of new parents and the newest member of their family. From convertible cribs to traditional sleigh cribs, there are myriad options from which to choose.
Cradle - New parents love the old-fashioned, romantic look that a cradle brings to the nursery, and babies love the soothing rocking motion of a cradle. Convertible Crib - A convertible crib, also known as a 3-in-1 or 4-in-1 crib, is a type of crib that can be converted to a toddler bed, day bed, or full size bed as the child outgrows the standard crib size. Some convertible cribs even convert into other furniture pieces, such as desks or dressers. Convertible cribs are a great option for new parents who want to get the most out of their nursery furniture purchase. 3-in-1 Crib - A type of convertible crib that converts to a toddler bed or a full size bed. 4-in-1 Crib - A type of convertible crib that can be converted to a day bed, toddler bed, or a full size bed. Round Crib - Round baby cribs are becoming increasingly popular with new parents who enjoy the flexibility they allow when arranging the baby's nursery. Round cribs also give your baby more space, and bring a unique look to the nursery. Changing Station - Changing stations and changing tables are one of the most important pieces in any nursery. Many changing tables and changing stations are part of a larger dresser unit, maximizing the storage space in your nursery. Nightstand - A small table placed beside a bed and usually used to for a small lamp, books, or a clock; frequently one nightstand is placed on either side of a bed if the bed is a full, queen, king, or cal king size. Chifferobe Dresser - A Chifferobe Dresser is a type of armoire or dresser that features both drawers and a large cabinet or wardrobe space. Laminate - Multiple layers used in furniture construction to create strength and durability; usually used in wood panels in three, five, or more layers, laid alternately across the wood grains. Lingerie Chest - A term used to describe a tall chest of drawers used to store lingerie; most frequently found in the bedroom. Headboard - The complete head section of a bed, forming the top portion of the bed nearest to the head of the sleeper; also defined as the boards within the head framework; generally equal to or greater in height than the footboard; can be used without a footboard and only a bed frame. Footboard - The portion of a bed that forms the end of the bed, near where the sleeper places his/her feet; often constructed of wood or metal and rising above the level of the mattress, but generally at the same height or of lower height than the headboard; beds do not need a footboard if they utilize a metal bed frame. Toddler Guard Rail - Toddler guard rails fix to the side of a toddler bed, preventing the child from falling out of bed during sleep. Accent Pieces - Accent pieces and accessory furniture include dressers, nightstands, changing tables, desks, toy boxes, and other furniture items. |
